On May 6 and 7, our Senior and Junior Debating Teams participated in the Term Two Round Two debates. The motion was that “This House would impose a compulsory carbon offset tax on the sale of airline tickets”. The two teams argued for the affirmative and negative sides respectively.
Despite losing the debate to Pooi To Secondary School, Dominic Wong (F4) in our Senior Team was awarded the Best Speaker of the Match for his impressive attempts to give targeted rebuttals.
The Junior Team, winning the match over Shun Tak Fraternal Association Tam Pak Yu College, secured the entry ticket for the Term Two Final. Timmy Lau (F3), the first speaker in the team, was awarded the Best Speaker of the Match for his fluent delivery and strong questioning skills.
On July 13, the Junior Debating Team participated in the Term Two Final Debate against Law Ting Pong Secondary School. The motion was that “This House believes that the elderly are better taken care of in nursing homes than living with their children”. The three debaters, Jacky Siu (F3), Daniel Ye (F4) and Ivan Yeung (F3), all put tremendous effort into preparing for the debate, arguing for the negative side. While narrowly missing out on the championship, their teamwork and endeavours were acknowledged by the First Runner-up trophy.
